Please License Your Dog Now

In New York State all dogs four months old and over must be licensed annually. In the Town of Sandy Creek, including the villages of Sandy Creek and Lacona, dogs must be licensed in the Town Clerk’s Office at the Town Hall, 1992 Harwood Drive, PO Box 52, Sandy Creek, NY 13145. Dog owners must present a valid rabies certificate and a spay or neuter certificate if applicable. A license for a spayed or neutered dog costs $6, while a license for an unaltered dog costs $14.

Last summer Dale A. Steele was authorized to conduct a dog enumeration or census. He visited residents of the Town of Sandy Creek to create an accurate list of all dogs and their owners in order to see that all dogs were properly licensed. All residents found harboring an unlicensed dog during last year’s dog enumeration, after a six week grace period, were charged an enumeration fee of $20.00. After six months, Dog Control Officer Marjorie McCann was instructed by the Town Board to issue the remaining owners of unlicensed dogs appearance tickets for Town Court. If you receive a ticket you must still license your dog and pay the enumeration fee. A fine for the appearance ticket will be issued by the Town Justice.

The Town Clerk’s Office is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 3 PM. After hours or weekend appointments are available if necessary. If you have questions about proper licensing procedures or to make an appointment, contact Town Clerk Tammy Miller or Deputy Clerk Sandra Besaw at 315 387-5456 X6.
